Q&A with Clinic Instructor(s) after each clinic session

What do the Horsemanship & Advanced Horsemanship clinics cover?

Our clinics are focused on teaching the Level 1, 2 & 3 exercises that are the foundation of Phil Haugen’s signature training program that has produced over $1M in Equistat earnings. These are the exercises used on a daily basis to train the horses at our facility from starting colts to conditioning seasoned horses. The exercises in each level lead into the next level, providing a strong foundation for high performance in multiple disciplines of horsemanship (i.e. barrel racing, breakaway roping, tie down roping, team roping, trail riding).

Are these clinics for beginner and/or advanced riders?

All of our clinics cover the Level 1, 2 & 3 fundamentals, allowing students from novice to advanced levels to work through each exercise at their own speeds. While some events on our schedule will be designated as an Advanced Clinic, this should not discourage novice riders from attending. The primary difference in our Advanced Clinics is that students typically progress more quickly through these fundamentals, allowing us to cover more exercises during the clinic.

What do the Barrel Racing clinics cover?

I have never made a claim to be a great barrel racer; however, I do know what it takes to prepare a horse to achieve excellence in the barrel racing discipline. In addition to the foundational Level 1-3 exercises that are taught at our horsemanship clinics, the barrel racing clinics will include an enhanced focus on the application of these fundamentals to barrel racing, including extra drills that will help set your horse up for smooth transitions on the pattern.

What do the Breakaway Roping clinics cover?

In today’s performance horse industry, the only thing that separates good competitors from great competitors is horse power. Our roping clinics teach you how to use your equine athlete to your advantage by establishing solid fundamentals and practice habits for long-term performance success. In addition to the foundational Level 1-3 exercises, breakaway clinics will offer an enhanced focus on: fundamentals of handling your rope, proper scoring techniques, positioning your horse for the best throw, establishing good practice habits, and building confidence and consistency with your horse.

Which horse(s) should I bring to the clinic?

My primary goal during a clinic is to help you walk away with tools and exercises that you can apply throughout the rest of your horsemanship career. With that being said, I always recommend bringing your best horse to ride during the clinic so that you can truly get a feel for the fundamentals we cover. Once you develop a solid understanding of these fundamentals, you will be able to apply them to any horse in any discipline of horsemanship.

Can I bring more than one horse to the clinic?

Yes! If you wish to bring more than one horse to ride during the clinic, I always recommend starting with your best horse then switching later to your other horse(s).

How many people will be in my clinic session?

Most two-day clinics are limited to a maximum 12-15 riders. One day clinics and colt starting clinics are typically limited to 6-8 riders to provide ample one-on-one instruction time for all students.

If someone comes with me to the clinic, do they have to pay the audit fee?

With respect to other participants and our clinic instructors, all spectators (except for adults who are accompanying a child under the age of 16) will be subject to our audit fee. All auditors who pre-register online will receive a copy of our Foundations Workbook plus a Q&A session with clinic instructor(s) after each clinic session.

When does registration open for each clinic?

Online registration will open approximately 3 months prior to your clinic. In the meantime, please click here to sign up to be notified when registration opens for your clinic. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, and those on our email list will have the first opportunity to secure a spot in the clinic before we open it to the public.

When is my clinic tuition due?

Participants will pay a non-refundable 50% deposit to secure their spot in the clinic. The remaining 50% balance on clinic tuition will be due 14 days prior to the clinic.

What is your refund/cancellation policy?

Your deposit holds your spot in the clinic. Due to the limited amount of riding spots available at each clinic, all deposits are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, please contact to determine your eligibility to receive tuition credit toward online training courses or 1:1 coaching calls.

In the event that the clinic is cancelled by Phil Haugen Horsemanship or our hosting facilities due to weather, travel restrictions, or other unforeseeable circumstances that prohibit an event of this nature, all registered participants will be contacted via email directly with further instructions.

What if I am unsatisfied with the clinic experience?

After attending the clinic, if within 30 days you don’t feel like you got at least a 100% return on your investment, you can email for a full refund on your tuition. That’s how confident I am that this experience will change your horse training experience dramatically and reduce a ton of frustration for you and your horse.

Where do I find additional information about each clinic?

Once registration opens for each clinic, detailed schedules, start times, and more can be found on the event registration page by clicking the “Register Now” button beside each clinic. Once you register for a clinic, you will receive more detailed information about your selected event via email. You may also sign up for clinic updates here to be the first to know when registration opens for your preferred clinic(s).

Are stalls and/or hookups available at each clinic?

Stall and hookup availability varies depending upon the facility for each clinic. Information on stall/hookup availability, costs, and booking information will be emailed to you upon registration for a clinic.
